The Indian Samajwadi Party got an absolute majority in Uttar Pradesh

The Samajwadi Party, which got an absolute majority in Uttar Pradesh, would choose its next chief minister after Holi, amid demands from the party's parliamentary party members that Akhilesh Yadav be handed over the reins of the state.

In Uttar Pradesh, the socialist Samajwadi Party was set to grab power from the Bahujan Samaj Party led by incumbent Chief Minister Kumari Mayawati. The SP won 224 seats, which means it has a solid majority in the state's 403-member assembly.
